You can easily charge the Niro Plug-in high-voltage battery by plugging its charging cable, which is included with the vehicle, into any normal 3-pin household plug. The electrical outlet in your home must comply with regulations and can safely accommodate the Voltage/Current (Amps) specified on the charging cable. The charging cable includes a plug and cable, control box (ICCB: In-Cable Control Box), and charging connector/cable.
STEP 1: Turn OFF all switches, ensure the gear is at P (park), and turn OFF the vehicle. Apply the parking brake.
STEP 2: After unlocking the doors, open the charging door by pressing it.
STEP 3: Connect the plug to a household electric outlet.
STEP 4: Make sure that the power connection indicator is green in the control box (ICCB).
STEP 5: Remove any dust on the charging connector and charging inlet.
STEP 6: Hold the charging connector handle, insert it into the charging inlet until you hear a click sound. If it is not fully connected, the improper connection between the charging connector and the charging terminals can be a potential fire hazard.
STEP 7: When connected properly, charging will start automatically and the charging light will start to blink.
STEP 8: On the instrument cluster on your dashboard, check if the charging cable connection indicator of the high voltage battery is turned ON. Charging does not occur when the indicator is turned OFF. when the charging connector is not connected properly, reconnect the charging cable to charge. The estimated charging time will be displayed on the instrument cluster.
- The charging will only take place when the gear is in P (Park) mode. Moving it to D (Drive) or R (Reverse) or N (Neutral) or D (Drive) will stop the recharging process. It is not advisable to charge the vehicle while it is in ACC (accessory) position as it may discharge the 12-Volt battery.
- In order to disconnect the charging connector, unlock the doors to unlatch the charging connector lock system. Otherwise, the charging connector and the vehicle charging inlet may be damaged.
